Level 2 Support Engineer
- Report to: Infrastructure Engineering Manager.
- Location: Hybrid roughly 50/50 – On-site in Reading / home working and travel to other customer sites or a Nine23 location.
- Hours: 9am to 5pm.
- Start date: ASAP.
- Term: Permanent (subject to probation period).
- Requirements: Candidates must hold SC clearance.
- Salary: £36K – £40K, based on experience and qualifications.
We are looking for a Level 2 Support Engineer to join the Nine23 team. This is a dual role. Primarily you will be based on site maintaining VMWare infrastructure, Microsoft Server and Desktop instances, basic networking and support to 3rd party applications. You will monitor events, log, report or rectify faults and engage with the customer to support their on-premises IT solution. Contributing to continuous improvement plans, assisting with reviews, and feeding in lessons learnt to improve processes and practices. You will be part of a team primarily supporting a project in the Reading area but will be expected to engage in other Nine23 projects and support activities.
Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the Nine23 engineering team to support customers.
- When on site. Maintain support and monitor:
- VMWare infrastructure.
- Microsoft Server 2022, including services such as Active Directory and DNS.
- Microsoft Windows 11 desktops and 3rd party applications.
- Updating and maintaining Anti-Virus.
- Basic networking.
- Backups.
- Effectively raise, track, and resolve tickets for user and system issues.
Candidate profile
Must have:
- Strong background in supporting users and user applications.
- The ability to identify and follow regulations and procedures.
- Experience supporting and maintaining:
- Microsoft Windows desktops and servers.
- VMWare infrastructure.
- Local area networks.
- Security appliances.
- Experience working in a highly regulated and controlled environment.
- Good communication skills, particularly when resolving customer queries.
- Ability to prioritise and manage work pragmatically.
- Organised and have an eye for detail.
- Capable of building strong working relationships with team members and users.
- Ability to communicate with Nine23 at all levels.
Ideally should have:
- Ideally the candidate will have used and/or configured SIEM software.
- Have experience working in a secure environment.
- A full UK driving license.

Remote Working
It’s time to stop sitting in traffic and wasting time commuting. Nine23 has a small dedicated workspace in Southampton when needed, however after a unanimous vote it was decided that all employees will continue work from home.
Training
Nine23 understands the importance of training and ensuring all team members have the opportunity to learn new and enhance their existing skills therefore Nine23 will contribute towards or fund all training course costs.
Holiday Allowance
Nine23 gives 24 days holiday entitlement (excluding public holidays) and we like to give our staff some extra time off to refresh over the Christmas holidays and spend time with your loved ones.
Staff Events
It’s important for Nine23 staff to all get together in person for staff events and parties to socialise. Don’t think awkward team building activities, think boat days out on the water and low-key curry nights!
Counselling
